Benefits of a New Floor Heating Thermostat
Bulky, overcomplicated dial and push-button thermostats are a thing of the past. Now is a great time to upgrade!
An electric floor heating system will last many years, but older systems can benefit from an updated thermostat. Fortunately, replacing it with a new and improved model is easy for any homeowner to do.*
Today’s electric floor heating thermostats have made industry headlines with technological advancements and modern design. Here’s what you can expect from an upgrade:
- Superior programming abilities that allow you to “set it and forget it” to suit your personal schedule
- Brilliant, high-resolution color touchscreen displays
- Compatibility with home automation systems
- Control and monitor from any location—on your smartphone or via voice through home assistants like Google, Alexa, and Apple HomeKit
- Designer looks in new colors to match any home decor
- Longer warranties (Minimum of three years, up to 12 years)
- Much more user-friendly interfaces, including app control on Wi-Fi models
Below, we’ll explain some of these improvements in more detail.
Enhanced Programming
A programmable thermostat controls exactly when your floor heating system is running. This means saving money on your electric bill and avoiding unnecessary heating on warmer days or when you’re away.
All of the latest generation programmable thermostats have a seven-day schedule that can be set for multiple heating periods. Updated software includes new, easy-to-use menus to guide you through all your system settings.
And newer thermostats with smart start technology get to know you. After one to two weeks, these programmable thermostats learn to compensate for the start-up time of your system, meaning your floor will reach the temperature you want at exactly the time you set.
Wi-Fi Options & Home Automation Integration
Wi-Fi thermostats make adjusting and programing your system from your smartphone, tablet, or browser even easier and more convenient. Simply connect the thermostat to your home Wi-Fi, and you can access all features and settings remotely. Additional benefits of having a Wi-Fi-enabled thermostat include:
- Warm-weather shutdown feature to help save you money
- Outdoor temperature and weather forecast display
- Energy use monitoring (hourly, monthly, weekly)
- Ability to control multiple thermostats at once
- Geofencing: Using location services on your connected smartphone, new thermostats know when you are away and can be turned off or on without having to be programmed
- Remote software upgrade capability**
- Email alerts**
Some thermostats, like the SunTouch SunStat® ConnectPlus™ thermostat, even connect wirelessly at 915 MHz to other sensors and relays in your smart home system for ultimate convenience, plus useful information about your floor heating system’s status, such as voltage detection and diagnostics.
Sleeker, Lower Profile Designs
The latest floor heating thermostats not only have improved functionality, they fit contemporary decor better with a lower profile design. The lowest profile thermostats come just ½” off the wall.

LANCE KEKOLER says:
I have a 6 year old Suntouch floor. About every 2 years the touch screen display “relay welded” and I have to replace the faceplate. It works just fine in between the 2 years. Is this normal
[email protected] says:
Hi Lance,
That is not normal, the thermostats have an average lifespan of 5-8 years usually.
That relay welded message actually means the relay inside the backplate is not working properly.
So you actually need to replace the entire thermostat unit (the front and backplate).
Cyndy says:
I currently have the non-programmable thermostat if I want to replace it with a programmable, possibly the Wi-Fi ,does it have to be completely rewired or can the face plate be removed and the new one installed/plugged in in its place with the upgraded programmable thermostat thank you
[email protected] says:
Hi Cyndy,
You will need to re-wire the new thermostat in, but it’s not too difficult.
There’s usually only 6 wires that need to be disconnected and put back in.
We also include an installation manual with your order.
Carl Hansen says:
I have a brand new SunTouch SunStat Connect WiFi Enabled Programmable Thermostat – that is not able to connect to the app. When selecting “Register device” it says there is no internet connection – yet there is a valid connection and Wi-Fi symbol is lit up and strong. I’ve called the warm your floor CS number and they referred me to Watts Home (the app that controls the thermostat). Watts Home has not responded, and its likely not a problem with the app – as I can even get the thermostat to register to get the code for activation in the app. Please contact me ASAP.
Michael R Sutcliff says:

Hello- I have a OJ Microline uccg-9991 that has a dead display- there’s power and the GFI has been reset but it looks like it’s toast. I want to replace it anyway- it was way too cryptic to use effectively anyway. Do you have a replacement recommendation? Do I have to go with a OJ brand? I don’t need/want wifi- just a solid simple programmable one would work great. Thanks.
[email protected] says:
Hello,
You can actually use any thermostat on our website as a replacement, even a non-OJ model.
You can see all the thermostats we carry HERE
Let us know if you need anything else, thank you!
